To enter Ghana, your passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after the date you arrive. You must also have a yellow fever vaccination certificate, often requested to be shown by the immigration officers on arrival and if completing a visa application.

Holders of a passport from a ECOWAS country (such as Nigeria) and holders of diplomatic, service or official passports from the countries listed under A below and nationals of the countries under B below will not require a visa.* More information on exemptions and requirements are provided on the relevant visa application forms (info below).

Visa Application

If you require a tourist visa, and are applying from the UK please complete the online visa application form on the Ghana High Commission website . A single entry visa costs £60 (as of July 2024). If you are applying from the US please visit the relevant commission website for your state (single entry visa costs $67 (as of July 2024).

Please note you will be required to show proof of your travel and accommodation details. The processing period for visas can take a few weeks so we recommend any visa applications are submitted by the end of August 2024.

Documents required to be submitted for visa application along with the fees include the following:

- Passport photo (taken within last 6 months)

- Confirmed hotel booking

- Flight details

- Applicant signature

- Travel itinerary

- Passport data page

- Yellow fever vaccination certificate

- Self addressed pre-paid envelope (for UK - Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm)

- Signed application form

Supporting documents: Please note that certain documents such as an invitation letter are not required - on the application you are given the option of submitting a copy of your confirmed hotel/accommodation booking as the supporting document.

Last Minute Visa Applications

Please note that express visa applications are available at an additional fee.

Please note that it may be possible to obtain a visa "on arrival" - but the application would need to be started at least a week before your arrival and will cost £170/$215. Please note supporting documents will be required and this can still take a number of hours to process at the airport. We recommend applying for your visa in advance however if you require this option please let us know as early as possible.
